Health Care Service Corporation is launching the HealthSpring brand for its Medicare products after closing the deal to acquire Cigna's Medicare plans.

Plans under the HealthSpring label were included in the deal, and HCSC said in an announcement that it refreshed the brand identity for a national rollout. The insurer will offer its first plans under the HealthSpring umbrella later this year, pending needed regulatory approvals.

The name includes an "H" with a spring design that "represents the vibrancy and vitality of the brand," HCSC said.

“We’re expanding into new markets with HealthSpring and we’ve embedded the brand with the qualities of caring and commitment that have made HCSC so successful for more than 90 years,” said Arun Prasad, executive vice president, chief strategy officer and president of diversified businesses for HCSC, in the announcement.

“With HealthSpring, we’ll offer more national coverage, with our established focus on local care and connection," Prasad continued. "Our foundation is built on relationships that last, and we continue to be a trusted health partner in the coordination of care, empowering those we serve to live vibrant, healthy lives. We believe that health is built together.”

HCSC said the design for HealthSpring will carry through its broader brand identity.

Cigna and HCSC sealed the deal on the $3.3 billion Medicare sale in March. While Cigna will no longer operate the plans directly, it will continue to provide them with pharmacy benefit management and other services through its Evernorth division.
