Humana's CenterWell Pharmacy has invested $83 million in its latest distribution center, opening in Florida.
The company announced Wednesday that the new facility will build out the company's prescription delivery infrastructure in the state, offering an easier and more coordinated experience for members and CenterWell patients.
In addition to home delivery options for Humana members, the 162,000-square-foot facility in Orlando will also offer payer-agnostic services such as direct-to-consumer and direct-to-employer partnerships, which are growing in popularity as prescription costs rise.
The facility can process up to 64,000 prescriptions each day, and will employ 165 people, Humana said.
“This new CenterWell Pharmacy reflects both our excitement for growth and our deep commitment to delivering better outcomes for patients,” said Bethanie Stein, president of pharmacy at Humana, in the announcement. “As demand continues to grow, we are expanding our capacity with modern, high‑performing pharmacies like Orlando, ensuring more people can access their medications safely, reliably and in a way that supports long‑term adherence and health.”
Humana has a significant reach in Florida and is the largest Medicare Advantage carrier in the state, with 1.1 million members. It also manages Medicaid plans for 540,000 Floridians and offers TRICARE to more than 770,000 people in the state.
The company also operates 200 CenterWell, Conviva and MaxHealth primary care locations, as well as 50 CenterWell and Trilogy Home Health facilities in the state.
Beyond the services provided at the new pharmacy distribution center, Humana said that it is also invested in career training and other supports through CenterWell Pharmacy.
“As Florida’s senior population continues to grow, CenterWell’s integrated care model offers improved health and simplified care for those we serve," said Sanjay Shetty, M.D., president of CenterWell, in the announcement. "This critical expansion of pharmacy services deepens our commitment to our patients in Florida and to the entire community, including thousands of local teammates.
"We are eager to further our mission to address whole health needs by personalizing care that leads to healthier and more fulfilling lives," Shetty said.
