Pet Geraghty, CEO of GuideWell and insurer Florida Blue, will retire from his role at the end of this year.

Geraghty has served as CEO since 2011, according to an announcement from the company, and over that time has led Florida Blue's transformation into GuideWell, which offers a broad array of healthcare services. He's also overseen a significant expansion of the health plan's reach in the state.
GuideWell has also made a notable push into Puerto Rico during his tenure, according to the announcement.
Thomas Kuntz, chairman of the board of GuideWell and Florida Blue, said in the release that, under Geraghty's leadership, the organization has grown from an enterprise with $8 billion in revenue to $32 billion.
"Pat Geraghty's visionary leadership has transformed our organization and positioned us as a national leader in the evolution of health care," Kuntz said. "His commitment to members, employees, and the communities GuideWell serves has been extraordinary."
"He has strengthened the company immeasurably and his dedication to our values and to helping people and communities achieve better health has had a profound impact on our culture, the health insurance industry, and the communities where GuideWell and its companies operate," Kuntz said.
Geraghty will step down Dec. 31, and the board will undertake a national search for a replacement, according to the announcement.
During his tenure, Florida Blue became one of the largest insurers among the Blues network in the individual market, offering plans in 67 counties in the state. Across all of GuideWell's offerings, it now serves 38 million people in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
The company also boasts 18,000 employees, according to the press release.
Geraghty has also been a prominent face in the Florida business and healthcare scenes and is the current chair of AHIP, the largest lobbying organization for the insurance industry.
"Being entrusted with the leadership of GuideWell/Florida Blue has been the highlight of my career," said Geraghty. "I treasure having had the opportunity to reshape a traditional insurance company into a health solutions enterprise with the consumer as the focus, and with wellness, care support, and quality of care for our members as integral to our mission of 'helping people and communities achieve better health.'"
"With a highly engaged board and deeply caring, dedicated teammates, we have been on a mission to meet our customers and members where they are and provide new, innovative ways to enhance their health journey," he said.
