Former Optum CEO Heather Cianfrocco to depart UnitedHealth Group

Former Optum CEO Heather Cianfrocco will depart UnitedHealth Group, she announced in a LinkedIn post on Friday.

Cianfrocco is a long-tenured executive at UnitedHealth Group and has held leadership roles across UnitedHealthcare and Optum, including CEO of Optum from April 2024 to April 2025. For the past year, she has served as UHG's executive vice president of governance, compliance and information security.

In the post, she said that she is "leaving with so much pride in what we have accomplished together" in her 24 years at the healthcare giant.

"I have seen firsthand the commitment and accountability of the clinicians, technologists, operators and leaders inside this organization, working at a relentless pace to improve the system," she wrote.

Details on the timing of her departure were not included in the post, and UnitedHealth declined to comment. In her post, Cianfrocco wrote that while she will leave UnitedHealth, she's not "stepping away from the commitment" to make healthcare better.

Her LinkedIn page still lists her as an employee of the company as of Monday afternoon.

As the company navigates an array of financial headwinds, the company has made several leadership shifts as former CEO Stephen Hemsley returned to the helm of the company in mid-May 2025. Those shifts included Cianfrocco's move from Optum CEO to UnitedHealth Group EVP, with Patrick Conway, M.D., succeeding her as chief of the Optum unit.
