In face of Medicare Advantage headwinds, SCAN plans benefit enhancements for 2026

A month ago, SCAN Health Plan revealed it would enter a new state with its Medicare Advantage (MA) coverage offerings.

Now, the not-for-profit insurer is offering a more detailed look at its slate of plans for 2026. SCAN said in an announcement that it's planning to expand its footprint despite significant headwinds battering the MA space.

SCAN Health Plan will offer coverage in 33 counties across six states, with Washington a new addition to its geographic footprint. Many of its 2026 plans include $0 copayments for primary care as well as visits to certain specialists. Plans may also offer $0 copayments for Tier 1 and Tier 2 medications.

SCAN said about 90% of the medications members take would have a $0 cost-share, including covered and alternative options for insulin, per the announcement.

“In a time when so much in our industry feels uncertain, SCAN remains a stable and consistent partner for older adults,” said Sachin Jain, M.D., CEO of SCAN Group and SCAN Health Plan, in the announcement. “Our focus is on simplifying the healthcare experience by building reliable networks and a dynamic suite of benefits that make it easier for our members to get the care they need, when they need it.”

Other benefits in certain plans include a dental care allowance that can range from $800 to $4,000 each year, offering financial assistance to members seeking dental services. Similarly, plans may include yearly allowances for vision care between $175 and $1,000.

In addition, SCAN will offer members in certain plans supplemental benefit allowances for over-the-counter products, herbal supplements, groceries, in-home fitness equipment or utilities, with the value ranging between $360 and $1,860 each year.

Other supplemental benefit offerings include a new program developed in partnership with Careforth, called Caregiver Advantage, which offers supports and resources to family caregivers on caring for a loved one while also maintaining their own health.

The program includes one-on-one coaching that can assist caregivers in navigating the day-to-day of caregiving as well as preparing for emergencies and building future care plans, SCAN said.

Plans with SCAN Essentials offer a preloaded debit card that members can use for key purchases across a network of eligible retailers. SCAN also offers a member reward program and in-home services for eligible enrollees, according to the announcement.

Medicare's annual enrollment period begins Oct. 15.
