CFO Mark Kaye to take the helm at Carelon in leadership shake-up at Elevance Health

Elevance Health Chief Financial Officer Mark Kaye will grow his list of duties to include oversight of Carelon, the company announced Thursday.

Peter Haytaian, current president of Carelon, will depart the role May 4 to focus on family commitments. Haytaian will stay on as a special advisor through Dec. 31 to support the transition and continuity across Carelon's business lines, according to the announcement.

Elevance's Carelon unit includes an array of services such as pharmacy benefits, behavioral health and value-based care enablement.

The company said in the announcement that the core goals and client commitments for Carelon will remain intact.

In addition to the changes at Carelon, Elevance Health said Felicia Norwood, chief health benefits officer, will take the helm at its combined health benefits organization. Through this move, the company's insurance segments will share an organizational structure that's built for accountability.

Elevance said this will allow for greater coordination between commercial and government plans as well as create more operational consistency across the business.

“Over the last several years, we have continued to evolve how we operate to meet the changing needs of healthcare and deliver for our customers, members and clients,” said Elevance CEO Gail Boudreaux in the press release. “These management changes support disciplined execution and help us move with greater clarity and coordination as we continue to scale."
