The American Psychological Association (APA)’s Labs division announced Tuesday the launch of a digital health resource guide for those seeking out mental health tools.
The APA Labs Digital Badge Solutions Library is a searchable collection of resources and technologies that have earned the organization’s Digital Badge. Users can browse tools and applications related to behavioral health and wellness; clinical tools; family, pediatrics and monitoring and sleep, relaxation and mindfulness.
The library launched with “an initial cohort of early adopters” to meet independent evaluation demand, the announcement said. Six tools are currently in the library “with many more products in the evaluation pipeline,” APA Labs Managing Director Tanya Carlson told Fierce Healthcare in an emailed statement.
“The library will continuously grow as these companies pass through our evidence-based, expert-led evaluation process,” Carlson said.
Carlson added that evaluations “go beyond just reviewing documents.”
“They’re a hands-on process led by independent digital health evaluators, in consultation with licensed psychologists, data privacy experts, and health tech engineers, and finalized with a review by APA experts in psychological science with deep knowledge of the digital mental and behavioral health space,” Carlson said.
Apps currently in the Digital Badge Solutions Library include Calm Health, Calm: Sleep and Meditation, Kai.ai, StarStarter for Anxiety, PepperChat and BrightCanary Parental Controls.
Chris Mosunic, Ph.D., Calm's chief clinical officer, said in the announcement “navigating the vast landscape” of available digital health tools “can be overwhelming.”
“The Digital Badge program brings incredible value to the space by providing a trusted framework for safety, ethics and evidence-based practice,” Mosunic said. “As an original supporter, we’re proud to display a badge that helps people make informed, confident choices about digital mental health.”
The APA Labs Digital Badge program launched in August 2025 and evaluates mental health products based on their alignment with clinical standards, regulatory compliance and privacy protections.
