SAN FRANCISCO—Health tech company Elation Health has embedded Anthropic's Claude into its electronic health record to power its artificial-intelligence-driven chart summaries.
Elation Health provides an EHR specifically for primary care physicians and rolled out its AI platform in August, including its clinical insights tool, which has become the fastest-adopted AI feature on its platform, Kyna Fong, Ph.D., co-founder and CEO of Elation Health, told Fierce Healthcare.
The collaboration with Anthropic expands the AI company’s reach to Elation’s nationwide primary care footprint with more than 46,000 clinicians using the platform.
The company’s clinical insights feature now uses Claude’s speed and long-context reasoning to synthesize complex, longitudinal patient data—including problem lists, medications, visit notes, labs and vitals—into concise summaries, according to the company. Unlike “black box” AI, Elation Health’s clinical insights feature provides clear citations and visual cues that link every summary back to the original source in the patient’s chart, This enables primary care clinicians to get a focused view of each patient's health story in seconds, helping them prepare for visits faster while staying firmly in control of clinical decisions, Fong said.
Anthropic offers speed and high performance with its AI models balanced with trust, Fong noted.
“We chose Claude, powered by Anthropic, for the strength of its model and its reputation for responsible AI. Together, we’re using AI thoughtfully, not for novelty, but to deliver clinical-first intelligence that reduces burden, keeps physicians in control, and moves primary care forward,” she said.
The clinical insights feature is generally available now on Elation’s platform.
Elation completed the migration to embed Claude into its EHR in November. As a result of that integration, clinicians are reporting 61% faster answers at the point of care.
Physicians’ use of the clinical insights feature has grown threefold since its core engine was moved to Claude, according to the company.
Elation's internal evaluations demonstrate that Claude understands the nuances of patient charts more accurately and responds faster than the company's previous approach.
“This partnership is distinctive because it pairs the only EHR purpose-built for primary care with the foundational model company that is working to ensure their models not only are the most accurate and trusted in healthcare, but also perform exceptionally well with large amounts of context,” Fong said. “Primary care is unique because relevant patient data is longitudinal and incredibly dense, often spanning decades. Anthropic’s models, like Claude Haiku 4.5, are specifically designed to handle these massive amounts of context with high accuracy and safety, which is essential for synthesizing a complete health history. Together, we are delivering a clinical-first tool that respects the importance of the comprehensive nature of primary care.”
Clinicians now have more access to clinical data than ever before. But a new problem has cropped up—clinicians, particularly in primary care, are “data rich and insights poor,” Fong said.
“They often have access to large amounts of patient context but often only in hostile forms of semi-structured and redundant or contradictory troves. Elation Health developed Clinical Insights to aim at solving that problem, and allowing clinicians to spend less time digging through records and more time focusing on patients,” she said.
The partnership with Anthropic takes Elation’s AI-native intelligence to “new heights,” she noted.
“Anthropic’s models understand the nuances of complex patient charts more accurately and respond significantly faster than our previous approaches, which allows for greater sophisticated synthesis that is in turn more actionable, usable, and highly adopted. Furthermore, our mutual alignment between Elation’s commitment to clinical-first, safe, compliant tools that enhance care and Anthropic's priority on trust, responsibility and enterprise, puts clinicians' support first,” she said.
Anthropic’s long-context AI makes longitudinal patient data usable inside real clinical workflows, without pulling clinicians out of the chart or asking them to trust a black box, Fong noted.
The AI company is making a big push into healthcare as the partnership news comes on the heels of Anthropic unveiling Claude for Healthcare.
“Elation has deep roots in the primary care community, and they’ve built something that fits how clinicians actually work—fast, cited chart summaries that support their judgment without adding friction,” said Zubair Jandali, healthcare and life sciences lead at Anthropic. “By embedding Claude directly into Elation’s EHR, we’re able to deliver fast, cited chart insights that fit naturally into existing primary care workflows, support clinician judgment, and meet the safety and reliability standards required in regulated healthcare environments.”
